FX OPTIONS: EUR/USD 1mth vol maintains 12% handle

1mth EUR/USD vol was recently seen bid at a one-month high of 12.35 pct, having been offered at 11.3 pct just over 24 hours ago--before the publication of a vol-boosting Reuters article entitled "Euro zone ponders delay of 2nd Greek programme". 1mth EUR/USD vol plumbed a 10-month low of 10.55 pct last Friday (Feb 10). "Greece Denies Delayed Bailout Plan, Will Accept More Supervision" (DJ). "Fresh Greek pension cuts to cover budget gap" (Ekathimerini website).

 

There is speculation that there might be a 1.3000 option expiry for today's 10am ET NY cut (15:00GMT). There are confirmed 1.3000 option expiries tomorrow (Friday) and Monday (Feb 20). A 1.3000 option barrier was erased in early European trade today (shortly before 07:00GMT).

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stock futures eased Thursday losses and Nasdaq 100 futures turned positive after a round of economic reports, including a drop in jobless claims last week to a near four-year low. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJH2 -0.01% were off 5 points at 12,758. S&P 500 futures SPH2 -0.11% declined nearly 2 points to 1,340.50. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 NDH2 +0.09% rose 2 points to 2,559.50.

Conclusion

To conclude, I would like to reemphasize the importance that my colleagues on the Board and I place on the Federal Reserve's relationship with community banks. The Fed is committed to fair, consistent, and informed examinations that take into account the size, complexity, and individual circumstances of each bank we oversee. We will continue to rely on the many channels of communication I discussed today to improve our supervision, and we will do all we can to eliminate unnecessary costs. By engaging in a constant dialogue with community banks through various communication channels and through the examination process, the Federal Reserve is able to collect important information about local economies and better inform banks about the applicability and expectations of new rules and regulations intended to help keep them safe and sound. Despite economic uncertainties, the condition of community banks is improving, which is reassuring given their undeniable importance to the health of our nation's economy.
