Gold continues climb higher

The flight to safety continues for gold as it broke above trend line and the 200 hour MA (green line in the chart above). The next target to surpass is the 50% retrcement of the move down from the May high. That level comes in at the $1599.08. Needless to say, Gold has returned as a safe haven instrument helped by weaker US data yesterday which lessoned the dollars attraction.

Talk about how the Fed could Twist again

There is  speculation about how the Fed might proceed if growth falters. The thinking is that the Fed would prefer to do another Operation Twist (buying long-dated Treasuries and selling the short end) rather than additional QE because of potential inflation and political backlash. Analysts at Citi say that economically, OpTwist has been just as effective as QE. The problem is that the Fed doesn't have many short-dated bonds left to sell. One solution is to sell 4-5 year notes rather than the 1-3 range that has been the focus.There is also talk the Fed could issue short-term debt and use it to buy long-term bonds. Another problem is that the Fed already owns about 30% of the +10-year Treasury market. Liquidity could be a concern if they get up to 50%. http://youtu.be/pgmnQteWAmA

เฮ้ย ! มันไหลลงแล้ว หุ้น Facebook ที่ฮือฮา จากข่าวสาร กล่าวว่า เปิดตลาดพุ่งไปที่ 43 แต่อีก 5 นาทีต่อมา จนถึงตอนนี้ วิ่งอยู่ที่ระดับ 40 เท่านั้น ถ้านักลงทุนไม่ขานรับราคาแล้วดันลง ราคาทองก็ทะลุ 1600 เพราะนักลงทุนคงมุ่งเข้า พี่ทอง

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Facebook Inc. saw its shares rise more than 12% in its opening trades on the Nasdaq Friday morning, the slip back quickly in the first few minutes of trading following the social network's $16 billion initial public offering. Facebook FB +5.26% shares opened trading Friday at $43, but slipped down to $40.55 within 5 minutes, making for a gain of about 6% from the IPO price of $38 per share. The company priced its offering of 421.2 million shares on Thursday afternoon, making for the largest technology IPO ever.

Dollar dives; I blame Facebook

EUR/USD has pushed up to 1.2740 as the world waits for the Facebook IPO to open. Looks as though the deal is going much worse than anticipated. CNBC reports that institutions got much bigger allotments of stock than they expected, a very negative sign for the deal. Asian central bank offers are rumored in the 1.2750 area still.
