Forex: US Dollar Index markedly up after NFP

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The greenback has accelerated its upside after the US government has informed that the economy has created 171K jobs during October, up from previous month’s +148K and above prior surveys at +125K. In another tone, the unemployment rate moved up 7.9% from 7.8%, matching expectations.

 

The world’s reserve thus continues its march north since mid October, with the US Presidential elections as the next big event for the dollar, due on Tuesday.

 

At the moment, the index is up 0.56% at 80.58 and according to tradingcentral.com, the next hurdle awaits at 80.65 ahead of 80.85 and 81.05

On the opposite direction, support levels are located at 79.95 followed by 79.80 and 79.65

FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- Major U.S. stock indexes opened in positive territory Friday after data showed a stronger-than-expected rise in October nonfarm payrolls and upward revisions to hiring data for August and September.

 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.03% rose 52.45 points to 13,285

the S&P 500 Index SPX +0.22% advanced 6.14 points to 1,433.73.

The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.06% added 9.75 points to 3,029.81.

 

October nonfarm payrolls rose 171,000, the Labor Department reported. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had forecast a rise of 120,000. The unemployment rate ticked up to 7.9% in October from 7.8%, in line with forecasts.

Factory Orders measures the change in the total value of new purchase orders placed with manufacturers. The report also includes a revision of the Durable Goods Orders data released about a week earlier as well as data new data on non-durable goods orders.

 

A higher than expected reading should be taken as positive/bullish for the USD, while a lower than expected reading should be taken as negative/bearish for the USD.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Factory orders rebounded 4.8% in September, almost completely reversing a drop in the prior month, the Commerce Department reported Friday. The gain was very close to expectations. Economists polled by MarketWatch had forecast a 4.7% rise. Orders in August were revised up slightly to a 5.1% fall from an initially reported 5.2% decline. In September, orders for non-durable goods rose 1.0%. Shipments rose 0.8% while inventories increased 0.3%. Durable goods were revised to a 9.8% gain from 9.9% reported last week. The gain in durable-orders was largely due to a rebound in bookings for commercial aircraft. Orders for non-aircraft, non-defense capital goods rose a slight 0.2% in September.
