ISM New York Index, released by NAPM-New York, assesses business conditions among manufacturers and non-manufacturing firms/organizations doing business in the New York area. The survey results are compiled into three summary measures for: (1) all industries, (2) manufacturing firms, and (3) non-manufacturing establishments. The survey results are compiled as diffusion indexes, which are calculated by taking the percentage of the respondents answering higher plus one half of the percentage of respondents who answer same or no change. A higher than expected reading should be taken as positive for the local economy, while a lower than expected reading should be taken as negative.

The Factory orders released by the US Census Bureau is a measure of the total orders of durable and non durable goods such as shipments (sales), inventories and orders at the manufacturing level which can offer insight into inflation and growth in the manufacturing sector. Normally, a high reading is seen as positive (or bullish) for the USD, while a low reading is seen as negative (or bearish).

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - U.S. lawmakers must remove uncertainty created by the "fiscal cliff," the International Monetary Fund said in a report released Tuesday. The pace of deficit reduction in the short-term should not sap the economic recovery that is expected to remain modest over the next two years, the IMF said. Growth in the largest global economy is expected to average 2% in 2012 and 2.25% in 2013. Given this outlook, the main policy challenge for U.S. officials is to use the limited remaining ammunition in the near term and restoring fiscal stability over the medium-term. The agency said it was critical that lawmakers remove uncertainty created by the "fiscal cliff" and promptly raise the debt ceiling when needed. SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Crude-oil futures traded higher Tuesday, shaking off the previous session’s losses and weak early trading to gain on a flare-up of geopolitical concerns about Iran.

 

Crude for August delivery CLQ2 +4.78%  gained $4.03, or 4.9%, to $87.80 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The front-month contract had earlier traded as low as $83.33 a barrel.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Orders for goods produced in U.S. factories rose 0.7% in May, the Commerce Department reported Tuesday. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had expected orders to rise by 0.1%. Factory orders fell a revised 0.7% in April, compared with a prior estimate of a 0.6% drop. Orders for durable goods -- products meant to last at least three years - rose 1.3% in May. Orders for nondurable goods rose 0.2%.
