By last Friday the Commitments of Traders reports suggests that futures traders are now at a net long of 126,937 contracts (a little under 400 tonnes). That is a gain of nearly 9% on the previous weeks position but still less than half the levels seen mid last year.

At 2.45 pm GMT, the Chicago PMI will be released by the National Association of Purchasing Management. Analysts anticipate that it will read a figure of 63.1 after it posted 62.5 last month. Also taking into light the fact that New York and Philadelphia saw improvements in the manufacturing sector too, we expect Chicago to follow suit.

 

Following that report the US will release the monthly consumer confidence index, which many expect will increase to 68.2 from 64.5.This report is slated for 3 pm GMT.

 

If the results are positive for both these reports expect the Dollar to increase in demand.

The Consumer Confidence released by the Conference Board captures the level of confidence that individuals have in economic activity. A high level of consumer confidence stimulates economic expansion while a low level drives to economic downturn. Generally, a high reading is also positive for the USD, while a low reading is negative.

 

CHICAGO PURCHASING MANAGERS' INDEX

The Chicago Purchasing Managers Index released by the Kingsbury International captures business conditions across Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. This index is an indicator of business trends and it is interrelated with the ISM manufacturing Index. It is widely used to indicate the overall economic condition in US. A result above 50 is bullish for the USD, whereas a result below 50 is seen as bearish.

Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJ2H +0.46%  rose 59 points to 12,661.

S&P 500 Index futures SP2H +0.46%  rose 6.8 points to 1,315.7

Nasdaq 100 futures ND2H +0.39%  gained 10 points to 2,472.
