NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Stocks on Wall Street were little changed on Monday after the previous session’s rally as investors awaited U.S. data on the manufacturing sector.

 

Equities moved in and out of positive territory in opening trade.

 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.02%  gained 5 points to 12,883, with American Express Co. AXP +1.34%  leading gainers. Twelve of the Dow’s 30 components traded lower.

 

The S&P 500 index SPX +0.15%  added 2 points to 1,364.25, with shares of Best Buy Co. BBY +9.06%  leading the index higher. The electronic retailer’s shares rallied 8%.

 

The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.19%  rose 5.17 points to 2,940.26.

อัตราการว่างงานในอิตาลีเดือนพฤษภาคมดิ่งลงเล็กน้อยจากเมื่อเดือนเมษายน

 

สำนักงานสถิติแห่งชาติอิตาลีรายงานว่า อัตราการว่างงานเดือนพฤษภาคมลดลงมาอยู่ที่ร้อยละ 10.1 จากร้อยละ 10.2 เมื่อเดือนเมษายน ส่วนอัตราการว่างงานในกลุ่มอายุ 15-24 ปีเพิ่มร้อยละ 0.9 เป็นร้อยละ 36.2 นับเป็นเดือนที่ 3 ติดต่อกันที่ระดับการว่างงานอิตาลีอยู่เหนือร้อยละ 10 ในช่วงที่ประเทศกำลังฟื้นฟูเศรษฐกิจเพื่อแก้ปัญหาวิกฤตหนี้สินกลุ่มยูโรโซน.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Outlays for U.S. construction projects rose a stronger-than-expected 0.9% in May, the Commerce Department reported Monday. This was the biggest increase of the year and well above analysts' expectations of a 0.2% rise. In addition, April construction spending was revised up to show a 0.6% increase from the previous estimate of a 0.3% rise. In May, an increase in private construction was partially offset by weakness in the government sector. State and local government spending fell 1% in May, for the fifth straight monthly decline.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Manufacturing activity in the U.S. dropped in June into contraction territory for the first time since July 2009, the Institute for Supply Management said Monday. The ISM dropped to 49.7% from 53.5% in May, against a MarketWatch-compiled economist poll of 52.3%. The new-orders index dropped 12.3 percentage points in June, registering 47.8% and indicating contraction in new orders for the first time since April 2009.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Treasury prices extended gains and the dollar stayed up on Monday after the Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing index for June unexpectedly contracted slightly. Yields on 10-year notes 10_YEAR -1.76% , which move inversely to prices, fell 7 basis points to 1.60%, from 1.62% before the data.

 

The euro EURUSD -0.7282% fell to $1.2599, from $1.2603 earlier and $1.2658 in late North American trade Friday.

The dollar index DXY +0.30% , a measure of the U.S. unit's performance against six major currencies, rose to 81.845 from 81.658 Friday.
