Forex: EUR/USD hits fresh lows after US CPI

FXstreet.com (Córdoba) - The Euro extended its decline to fresh daily lows after a report showed US consumer prices rose in line with expectations in March.

 

EUR/USD slid below the 100-day MA at 1.3134 and stretched to a fresh daily low of 1.3123 after the data. At time of writing, the cross is quoting around 1.3125, where it records a 0.5% loss on the day.

 

Disappointing Chinese GDP along with mounting fiscal worries in Spain have put the Euro under pressure on Friday, after hitting levels above 1.3200 late Thursday.

 

In terms of technical levels, immediate supports could be faced at 1.3120, 1.3100 and 1.3080, while resistances are seen at 1.3200, 1.3215 and 1.3240.

The dollar index DXY +0.30% , which measures the greenback against a basket of six currencies, extended gains to 79.560, from 79.513 before the report and 79.269 in late North American trading on Thursday.

 

The euro EURUSD -0.4531% fell to $1.3137 from $1.3199 Thursday

 

Light, sweet crude-oil futures for delivery in May CLK2 -0.16%  were down 37 cents, or 0.4%, at $103.29 a barrel in European afternoon hours.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks started lower on Friday, retreating after the S&P 500's best two-day rise so far this year, as investors pondered a report showing slower-than-expected growth in China. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.40% shed 59.26 points, or 0.5%, to 12,927.3. The S&P 500 SPX -0.39% lost 6.3 points, or 0.5%, to 1,381.27. The Nasdaq Composite COMP -0.48% fell 16.7 points, or 0.6%, to 3,038.85.

LONDON (MarketWatch)—U.K. stocks headed for a weekly loss after disappointing growth data from China spooked investors out of equities Friday, while losses for banks also weighed on sentiment.

 

The FTSE 100 index UK:UKX -0.59%  slumped 0.5% to 5,685.26, set to snap a two-day winning streak.

 

Banks added pressure to the index and tracked a broad decline in European financials on the back of a surge in bank borrowing in Spain. Spanish banks’ gross borrowing from the European Central Bank nearly doubled in March compared with the prior month. Spain stocks off, yields up on bank borrowing jump

 

Shares of Lloyds Banking Group PLC UK:LLOY -2.43% LYG -2.50%  gave up 1.6%, while Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC UK:RBS -2.85%   RBS -3.38%  shed 2.1%.

 

U.K. stocks also keyed off signs of slowing growth in China. Gross domestic product for the first quarter in the world’s No. 2 economy cooled to 8.1%, slipping below analysts expectations of an 8.3% expansion. The previous quarter, the economy grew 8.9%. China growth slowest since global crisis
